you know,if yesterday's rehearsal was 'professional', we would have been kicked out of the studio already. they talked about 'respect'. what is respect? respect isn't just shown outside of class, whereby when you see seniors/alumni/people of higher authority/ Ann, you act all sugar & spice & everything nice. i think everyone knows this. BUT. not everyone knows what is respect IN class. in practices, in rehearsals, whatever. someone is teaching in front of the class. the least you could do is keep quiet & pay attention. that is the most basic respect you could give to that person in class. dancers out there in the world don't give a damn how you act in front of them outside of classes & rehearsals. because you can act chummy but you're just putting on an act. they look to your attitude IN classes. if you don't keep the volume down, the person in front is going to have a bloody hard time trying to teach, & his/her voice will get drowned by the rest of the people. then him/her will have to raise up his/her voice, & it becomes very frustrating. & keeping quiet isn't just for the one teaching, it's for the rest of the class as well. you want to talk about respect, don't forget respect for your peers. you don't want to listen, it's your own problem. there are others who want to. don't disrupt the class, because it's bloody annoying. just reflect upon the number of times you've been shushed during class yesterday. ask yourself if it's right. if you can keep quiet & pay attention during Ann's classes, why can't you do the same for other peoples'? rehearsals can be fun. but fun isn't congruent to noise. & what do you mean by you're not having fun? you're dancing. & seriously, instead of constantly whining, "i want to dance as good as _________." make an effort to do something about it. sitting down there & watching the seniors dancing & wishing you could be like them isn't going to make you any better in dance. you think they don't practice? self-practice. what is true self-practice? coming down together as one big group & clearing up steps together. yes, that's useful. because you know what to do. then what happens after that? you go home, then what? how many of you actually practice every. single. thing. that has been cleared up with you at home? in front of the mirror? do you even listen to the music? do you visualize the steps in your mind when you're free? what. what exactly do you do after all those self-practices, that people actually took the effort to organize? we can go on & on & on & on & on clearing steps together. but what's the point if you don't improve? self-practices aren't compulsory to have. Becca & Orange & Farid & Ann don't have to spend all that time choreographing, teaching, & cleaning up steps with us. they didn't do it for themselves. they did it for us. they sacrificed their time & effort. for us. it's our item. you come back in every single time still not knowing your steps, & forgetting what was cleaned up. it's just not nice. showing your face in every single class isn't commitment, because you can come in, learn new stuff, go out & forget. commitment in your item is when you come in, learn new stuff, go out, remember & practice. practice. has it been forgotten? & the most annoying thing is, you can't even get your steps right, you want to learn other peoples' choreography. why? what's so great about learning other peoples' choreography? you don't even know what you're SUPPOSED to know. instead of spending those extra time on learning something else, why don't you take that time & practice on your OWN steps? if you know you don't look nice doing your OWN steps, what makes you think you'll look nice doing other peoples'? you say it's your 'style'. what style have you got when you can't even control your own body. it's your. own. body. your. own. muscles. unless you have some neurological disease, you should be able to control your. own. body. if you can't even control it on your own, no one else can. the point is, don't lose focus. you know you're supposed to be practicing your own stuff. do it. other things can wait. oh, & also, before you go crazy over one dancer just because of his/her choreography which some of the people you know happened to have learnt it & taught others who KNOW who he/she is, do your own research. "yea did you watch YouTube? that _______ dance choreographed by ________? yea i know how to do it." so what. do you know who _______ is? how _______ started dancing? why? where is ________ based in? what style was that dance? yea. you probably don't even know anything. you probably just want to learn it because you think it's dope. dope. it's not even qualified as an excuse. & don't say you have passion for dance. you probably like it. or love it. whatever. you want to see passion, look at how dancers out there live their life. then compare with yourself. what are you doing.
