we went to check out the Esplanade's concert hall!
very interesting place (:
technically the whole hall can be considered as a separate building from the rest of Esplanade,
because there's an air space in between the walls of the hall & the foyer.
& the hall is situated on a rubber platform!!
so any sound vibrations from any outside sources that might disturb a concert are stopped at the air gap & rubber platform. cool right!
apparently there was a choir or band concert going on during F1 season,
but no one could hear any noise inside. (:

anyway, the interior of the concert hall!!
that HUGE thing you see on the ceiling, it's the canopy.
it's meant to reflect sound so that people who are directly IN FRONT of the stage can hear the whole timbre of the music.
because for most musical instruments, the sound travels in one direction.
like piano, the sound travels upward as the piano strings are facing up.
so people who are right below the stage might lose some of the sound quality.
(ironically they pay the most. lol.)
so the canopy is needed.

the hall is really very isolated.

then we went to the backstage area, where we were brought to this place called the reverberation chamber.
(i think. LOL.)


okay yea you can't see much.
& i don't know how to explain.
but basically the chamber helps in the diffusion of sound too.
hahaha. & the chamber also helps to create different 'feels' that different scenarios require.
okay a bit cheem. i don't know how to explain this hahaha.
it's just something very cool. xD


hm. okay. these are curtains found in the reverberation chamber room place.
more curtains = less reflections.
less curtains = more reflections.
get it? lol.


these are doors that open up to the chamber.
they are like.. damn huge. seriously.
& all are made of cement.
so they are superrr heavy.

on the outside..


these doors have all these stuff on them.
they help to give the correct angle of reflection & diffusion of sound within the hall.
haha.
if there's any chance to go to the concert hall for any performance,
look above you & try & spot these doors. they're not hard to find (:

& these doors can open & close to allow different.. amounts - if you can call it - of sound to travel into the reverb chamber,
thus it gives different room quality.
something like that.

i think the doors are pretty. hahaha.
